MacyI grew up just outside of Greenville, OH. For as long as I can remember, my family has had dogs. I've also been watching family members' dogs for years. To me, a life without dogs would be so boring! I graduated from Greenville Senior High School in 2017. While in high school, I attended Edison State Community College and following high school, I studied Secondary Education and History at Indiana University East for a few years. I attended Dog Trainer College in Spencer, IN in 2021 and became a Certified Dog Trainer. Every morning, I hand-milk our family milk cow Darla after letting the chickens out for the day and then take care of the second and third let outs in the kennel. And I am a full time work-from-home mama on top of it all since Ryder was born in 2023!
TaylorI was born and raised in Union City, IN. My love for animals started at a young age. My mom and sister were always rescuing animals & bringing them home. As a teen, I rescued a few cats, dogs, a lamb, and learned to raise bottle calves from my grandpa. I'm a 2010 graduate of Union City Community High School. I attended Ivy Tech Community College where I earned my Associate's Degree in Business Administration & my Class A CDL. I have driven professionally since 2013 & have been an owner-operator since 2014. After many years of driving, I was ready for a change. In the summer of 2021, I attended Reppert Auction School and that fall I became a licensed auctioneer. In spring of 2022, I hung up driving to focus on building another business, but some plans changed and I decided to hold off so I'm currently working for a local company in Union City while also doing the first and last let outs each day in the kennel.
UsWe are the Koon family - Taylor, Macy, and Ryder. We live on a small homestead on the outskirts of Union City, Indiana. We started dating in 2018, married in 2021, and Ryder was born in 2023. We have five dogs of our own as well (Klaus, Mia, Ada, Hank, & Ellyn) and they were part of our inspiration to create Koon Homestead Kennels, which we opened in October of 2020.
In addition to our dogs & kennel dogs, we also care for lots of livestock here on our homestead. We have laying hens, two family milk cows, a heifer calf, a yearling, &, of course, a farm cat. We’ve also raised longhorns and pigs for meat & had a couple goats for a short bit. We’re always up to something though… so come back to see what we do next! In our free time, we love sitting on the porch (or just being outside in general), chatting about all things homesteading, or eating at our favorite local Mexican restaurant. We absolutely love what we do and are so thankful that we are able to do just that. Hopefully, we’ll see you (and your pups!) soon. -the Koon family Our WhyOur love for dogs has always bonded us. In fact, one of our very first conversations was about dogs. We have five dogs of our own and while they keep us on our toes, we can't imagine our life without them. Our dogs were part of the inspiration for Koon Homestead Kennels.
We have always been able to count on our family to care for our dogs if needed, but we understand that not everyone has someone they can rely on to care for their pups - so we wanted to be that someone for others. The kennel is located right here at our home, making every dog who stays with us truly feel like one of our own. It’s always been our goal to provide a safe + cozy boarding facility for all dogs staying with us. |
Our crew. Our reason.
