MacyI grew up just outside of Greenville, OH. I graduated from Greenville Senior High School in 2017. I went to college locally for a few years before deciding to try working full time, but just wasn’t happy. I’d always been passionate about dogs and Taylor had always wanted to open a dog boarding facility so when I was ready for a change, we decided to go for it together. In October of 2020, we opened Koon Homestead Kennels. The following year, I attended Dog Trainer College in Spencer, IN and became a Certified Dog Trainer. The next year, I launched Four Paws and Me Co – a mommy and me dog boutique that consisted of handmade dog bandanas and matching dog mom pocket tees after I learned how to sew and loved it. That same year we began growing our homestead. Every morning, I hand-milk our family milk cow, Darla, after letting the chickens out to free range for the day. In the warmer months, I also care for the garden and stock the farm store. The kennel is set up for either of us to be able to manage full time, but on a day-to-day basis, we currently split the five let outs and I handle most of the office work including appointment scheduling, verifying vaccinations, social media managing, and customer service relations in addition to the never-ending daily cleaning. And on top of it all, I am a stay-at-home-mama to two littles!
TaylorI was born and raised in Union City, IN. My love for animals started at a young age. My mom and sister were always rescuing animals & bringing them home. As a teen, I rescued a few cats, dogs, a lamb, and learned to raise bottle calves from my grandpa. I'm a 2010 graduate of Union City Community High School. I attended Ivy Tech Community College where I earned my Associate's Degree in Business Administration & my Class A CDL. I have driven professionally since 2013 & have been an owner-operator since 2014. After many years of driving, I was ready for a change. In the summer of 2021, I attended Reppert Auction School and that fall I became a licensed auctioneer. In spring of 2022, I hung up driving to focus on building another business, but some plans changed and I decided to hold off so I'm currently working for a local company in Union City while also doing the first and last let outs each day in the kennel.
UsWe are the Koon family - Taylor, Macy, Ryder, & Addy. We live on a small homestead on the outskirts of Union City, Indiana. We started dating in 2018, married in 2021, Ryder was born in 2023 and Addy was born in 2025. We have five dogs of our own as well (Klaus, Mia, Ada, Hank, & Ellyn) and they were part of our inspiration to create Koon Homestead Kennels, which we opened in October of 2020.
In addition to our dogs & kennel dogs, we also care for lots of livestock here on our homestead. We currently have laying hens, two family milk cows, two heifer calves, a goat, &, of course, a farm cat. In the past, we have raised cows, chickens, and pigs for meat. We’re always up to something though… so come back to see what we do next! In our free time, we love sitting on the porch (or just being outside in general), chatting about all things homesteading, or eating at our favorite local Mexican restaurant. We absolutely love what we do and are so thankful that we are able to do just that. Hopefully, we’ll see you (and your pups!) soon. -the Koon family Our WhyOur love for dogs has always bonded us. In fact, one of our very first conversations was about dogs. We have five dogs of our own and while they keep us on our toes, we can't imagine our life without them. Our dogs were part of the inspiration for Koon Homestead Kennels.
We have always been able to count on our family to care for our dogs if needed, but we understand that not everyone has someone they can rely on to care for their pups - so we wanted to be that someone for others. The kennel is located right here at our home, making every dog who stays with us truly feel like one of our own. It’s always been our goal to provide a safe + cozy boarding facility for all dogs staying with us. |
Our crew. Our reason.
